Stanford Cat Network
http://catnet.stanford.edu
The original TNR campus group, established in 1989. Estimated 1,500 homeless cats were on campus, now reduced to about 200. Strong support on campus, funded through donations, has signed formal agreement with university administration. Considered a model for campus TNR programs.

University of Georgia
Cat Zip Alliance
http://catzip.org
Recently established in December 2005, campus is “home to hundreds of feral cats.” Has already adopted 40 kittens, 21 adults through TNR program.

http://campuscats.org
Established in 1988, feral cat population has reportedly declined by 90%. More than 500 cats trapped, half of these adopted, half returned via TNR program. Has been granted charitable (tax-deductible) status. Strong emphasis on testing/vaccination for FeLV, FIV – note that very few cats (3-6%) have been found to carry these diseases.

Auburn University, Columbus, Ohio

http://www.auburn.edu/prevet/catnap

California Institute of Technology
Caltech Animal Team

UCLA, Los Angeles
The UCLA Animal Welfare Association
http://www.studentgroups.ucla.edu/awa
Group started TNR in 1991, although efforts to establish started in 1989. Originally 150-200 cats on campus, university administration was using mass exterminations, but this led to population explosions due to vacuum effect, and cycle continued. In first year, AWA placed over 100 cats for adoption. Currently less than 40 cats on campus, all desexed. Assistance comes from university’s Department of Facilities Management, and Department of Environment, Health and Safety.

The University of Texas, Austin
The Campus Cat Coalition
http://www.ae.utexas.edu/cats
Established April 1995, operates under the umbrella of the “Animal Make Safe Program” of UT’s Office of Environmental Health and Safety, but run by donations. Over 250 cats have been trapped, 109 returned to campus after TNR. Approximately 20-30 TNR adults now remain on campus, no kittens born in last 7 years.

Bakersfield College, California

News story on http://media.www.nineronline.com/media/storage/paper971/news/2003/09/19/CampusNews/

University of Central Florida at Orlando
Friends of Campus Cats
http://pegasus.cc.ucf.edu/~caa
Established in 1991, with identified feral cat population of 155. By 2002, only 23 cats remained on campus through TNR, many adopted, some lost by natural attrition.

American University of Beirut, Lebanon
AUB Animal Welfare Club
News story on http://wwwlb.aub.edu.lb/~webbultn/v7n3/
Group established in 2001. By December 2003, more than 100 female cats spayed through TNR program administered by Faculty of Medicine Animal House, use of birth control pills in winter. Has strong support of university administration.

NOTE 1: This list is by no means exhaustive, and will be updated over time. It has been estimated that at least 20 campuses in the USA currently use the TNR approach to control feral cat populations.

NOTE 2: There are also numerous community organisations that use the TNR approach to control feral cat populations. See for example:

Operation Catnip (Raleigh, North Carolina; Gainesville, Florida; Richmond, Virginia)
http://www.operationcatnip.org

Feral Cat Coalition (San Diego, California)
http://www.feralcat.com
This organization has sterilised over 20,000 feral cats using TNR since 1992. This led to a 50% reduction in rate of euthanising feral cats in first 5 years of operation (statistics available).
